Grand Coulee is a Columbia River town of about 900 people, and almost everything about it comes back to the water. The Grand Coulee Dam and its powerhouse stand at the north end of town, and the tours through the powerhouse are the reason visitors come at all. Below the dam the Gorge turns into a boating and fishing stretch that fills with boats once the weather turns warm.
The town also has a working past worth knowing about. The Selkirk Log boom moved timber down the Columbia before the railroad reached this stretch of Washington, and the camps, mills and company towns that grew up around that logging operation shaped what Grand Coulee was for decades. Walking around town you can still see both versions of it, the dam and its visitors, and the working river town underneath.
For a business directory, the practical part is that Grand Coulee serves a wide area. People come in from the farms and ranches along the river, from the north side of the dam, and from the smaller communities strung out along Highway 174. A local shop here may draw customers from fifty miles away.
Right now we have one Grand Coulee listing, Siam Palace, a Thai and Chinese restaurant with a 170-review history. It is a short list, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. If you run a business in Grand Coulee, add it to the directory.
