Soap Lake is a small town of about 1,100 people on SR-17 north of Moses Lake, named for the alkaline lake it sits beside. The mineral-rich water gave the town a health resort reputation that goes back a long way, and the lake still draws people who come for the water and the beach rather than for any particular business.
It is also a gateway. Sun Lakes-Dry Falls State Park lies just north, and the road from Soap Lake up toward the park passes through town, which makes the highway a busy stretch for much of the year. The Soap Lake Beach Run is the town's own event, a race that brings runners and families out to the lake and fills the streets for a morning. Between the state park traffic, the resort history and the summer race, Soap Lake sees more people in a few warm months than the other 509 towns of its size.
For local businesses, that means a sharp seasonal rhythm. Summer brings traffic and new customers. The rest of the year settles back to the regulars.
We have one Soap Lake listing in the directory right now, Mi Cocinita, a restaurant with 182 ratings. That is a thin representation of a town with a real mix of small businesses, so if you run something here, claim your listing and we will add it.
